L: Shall we get down to the packing, Mr. Smith.
S: O.K., then.

李：史密斯先生，我们谈谈包装好吗？
史：好吧。

L: First of all, I'd like to hear your comments on the packing for the shipments we've delivered to you so far.
S: We've found it satisfactory on the whole. The packing is seaworthy and all the shipments we've received have been in good condition, I'm glad to say.

李：我想先听听，到目前为止你对我们所交货物的包装有什么意见。
史：总的来说，我们是满意的。包装适合海运要求，已经收到的货物情况也良好，这是我想说的。

L: It's as we thought then, hm?
S: Not quite, I believe you've read our letter on this matter, sent to you a month ago. A few damaged cartons were found among your shipments. They averaged about 1-2 percent. Fortunately, no damage was caused to the goods. To be on the safe side, I wonder if you could improve your packing somewhat.

李：我们早就是这么想，嗯？
史：但也不尽然。我们一个月以前关于包装这件事，写了一封信，我相信你已经看到了。你们发的几批货中，有些纸板箱损坏了，平均占百分之一到二。好在商品还没有损失。为了保险起见，你们是否能对包装稍加改进。

L: Thank you for your candid opinion, Mr. Smith. As a matter of fact, we've already taken steps to improve it by using metal angles to reinforce the corners of each of the cartons, so that they will stand even rougher handling in transit.
S: I'm glad to hear that. I must say you always seem to have the buyer's interests in mind.
李：史密斯先生，感谢你坦率地提出意见。事 实上我们已经着手改进，纸板箱每个角都用金属片加固。这样，转运时碰撞得更厉害些也能经得住。
史：听你这么说，我很高兴。看来你们总是为顾客的利益着想。

L: It's nice of you to say so. For better results, we now use plastic bags instead of paper ones. This not only gives better protection but adds to the attraction of the goods.
S: Yes, plastic bags appeal more to the customers.

李：谢谢。为了取得更好的效果，我们把纸袋改为塑料袋，不但保护性能好，而且使商品更有吸引力。
L: Anything else you want to bring up for discussion?
S: No. Nothing else, Mr. Li.

李：还有什么要提出来讨论的吗？
史：没啦，就这些

L: Thank you, Mr. Smith. Now everything is settled, we can sit back and enjoy a cup of tea. What do you say to that?
S: Lovely!
